A question I thought about over the weekend that I hope is on my upcoming Constitutional Law exam.
Allen Andrande was sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole today for the murder of a transgender woman, the Denver Post reports.
Defense attorney Annette Kundelius argued that Angie (Justin) deceived Andrande about her biological sex, and that was what this case was about. Rightly so, the jury believed this case wasn’t about deception at all. Given the conviction of Andrande, it is more accurate to say this case was about the brutal murder of another human being with a fire extinguisher, motivated by hatred.
I’m not sure what’s more appalling, the violence against these women or the term used to describe it.
